academic emotional high

Sat Oct 31, 2009, 1:23 PM
Hello...
I just got back from the Virginia Association of Teachers of English (VATE) conference meeting in Williamsburg, VA today.VATE is where English teachers join to discuss, through seminars, different teaching methods and how to apply new ways to keep students involved. There were also many college students who attended. During and after seminars throughout the day, people would talk about these 'new' techniques and what they knew from their experiences. It was in the middle of one of these discussions that one of the older teachers turned to me and asked, "So what do you teach?" I'm only a freshman in college, but I really like the sound of that. I think it is something I could get used to, even if I decide to teach something else (i.e. history or science).
Anyways, about the art. I can't get any pictures, drawings, or writings onto the website. It will try to load the image or text, and then never stop loading. They're not big files and my computer is in good condition, so I am left very confused. Has anyone else had this particular problem? I don't understand what's going on...

fall break

Wow...
My first semester of college is already halfway over. Midterms are being finished today and tomorrow, big projects are frantically completed (not me, ha! yay self-schedule!), and everyone is ready to vanish for the long weekend. It's only a three hour drive back home, but I will have to drop off my room mate and his girlfriend along the way- that's okay though, because that means gas money.
School has been busy. They say college is the next step up, but I guess you don't realize it until it's too late. I like all my classes- rhetoric (english), ancient history, sociology, wetland ecology, and (for the required seminar class) mexican-american inter-border cultures. Service hours are mandatory, but there are so many organizations around that it really won't be a problem. The state of Virginia apparently does not offer a major in education/teaching, but I can aim for a Master's degree in a 5 year program. Now I just need to choose a major that will correspond to what I will teach. Social Studies allows for the most opportunity and flexibility, but Science is interesting and I'm good at English/Literature as well. As long as it isn't too heavy in math, I'll be a happy person. Stats is probably as far as I go.
I have realized yet again that I am not the best with computers. I'm still not completely used to my new laptop, and I still need to transfer my old files and pictures to this one. Knock on wood or something so it'll work. Whether it's the internet provider at the school or the laptop itself, submitting pictures to deviant is temperamental at best. Sometimes it works, and other times it'll stay in the uploading sequence forever. Maybe I'll have better luck at home.
Until next time....
PS: I finally discovered the photo dump website "snap-fish", which for months I had confused the name for as fish-bucket (mixing the name with "photo-bucket"). Oops...

The program that's on my laptop finally works! I uploaded all of my pics from the summer, and came right to this site. That was more than 10 hours ago and it's still trying to upload the first one. I think I should try again tomorrow. The pictures look great; you'll see them eventually.

college move in

Wed Aug 19, 2009, 2:04 PM
Wow...
I drove for three hours down to my new school (hopefully for the next 4-5 years). I met my two room mates (for at least the next semester) and pretty soon we all need to go to the 'welcoming' event. Tomorrow I need to register my car to receive a parking space; as well as purchase all of my books. Classes start within the next few days. All I can think is... holy crap.

late tonight

OK...
I finally was able to put some pics here through the old computer. It's old and incredibly slower now that the pictures are onto it; so I need to download them all onto discs and then delete them off of the old computer. That way I can upload the pics form my other memory card and put them here too while still using a somewhat respondent computer (then repeat). Perhaps I should save up for an external hard drive? I have this, "friend of a friend who knows this guy", who built his own computer from warehouse parts and it has around 5 terabytes onto it. I'm not too sure exactly what that amounts to; just that it's A LOT of available memory. Needless to say, his online games must not lag at all.
Anyways, I haven't been able to use my new laptop for the pics. It won't let me use i-photo, as well as some of the other programs that came with the computer. I think I need to uninstall and then re-install the programs. Maybe something went wrong during the initial uploading? I feel somewhat reluctant to ask the customer service guys at the Apple store; not only do I think they'll charge me (the price tags of their items support my theory) but I'm a man damn it! Apparently we have some drive to do everything ourselves despite the possible consequences (I have gotten lost this way many times already).
I can't really sleep tonight, for some reason or other. I just feel the need to write or read, but not stay still for more than a few moments at a time. It's almost an 'itching' sensation just underneath the skin. I probably look silly walking around in circles, holding the computer, and typing in my underwear during the earliest hours of the morning. I should go out somewhere tomorrow.
Just to be even more random; I watched 'The Knowing' today. Watching the movie was a lot like reading 'The Scarlet Letter' by Nathaniel Hawthorne- in that the "subtle" hints in the early part of the movie (and later) spelled out the rest of the plot. I guess it goes along with the theme of "it's ALL already spelled out". Overall it was good though- creepy and weird- but good. I liked the score a lot. I think mom just rented it because it has Nicolas Cage; he seems to be in a lot of weird movies like that.
